Power & Release Date
The all-new third-generation 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel isn’t just here to talk a big game. This big guy delivers, achieving highest half-ton diesel torque at 480 lb.-ft. and highest available half-ton diesel towing capacity at 12,560 lbs.
The new engine will be available in all 1500 models and configurations – marking the first time the EcoDiesel and the Ram Rebel will meet. Though Ram isn’t giving up an exact release date quite yet, we do know that the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will be released sometime in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Enhanced Fuel Efficiency
Designed to maximize fuel efficiency, Ram’s eTorque mild hybrid system comes standard with the V6 engine. Matched with that eTorque technology, Ram promises the third-gen EcoDiesel will also offer the highest available fuel efficiency for Ram 1500 customers. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until we get closer to the release date to catch a glimpse at those fuel economy ratings.
Some major updates responsible for the 2020 EcoDiesel’s enhanced performance and efficiency include:
- New water-cooled turbocharger with variable geometry turbine
- Enhanced cylinder head intake ports
- Exhaust gas recirculation system design updated to dual loop system
- Compression ratio optimized to 16.0:1 from 16.5:1
If that’s not enough to set it apart from the segment, the engine also matches with a class-exclusive air suspension. The new suspension enhances fuel economy, improves ride control and off-road capability, helps with entry and exit and offers automatic load leveling.
